Democracy no longer means anything. In January the Supreme Court in a 5/4 decision struck down all limitations on corporate donation and to election funding. Corporations will now own your government lock, stock and barrel. Decades of limitations have been struck down in a case by Citizens United VS FEC(Federal Election Commission).
At the core of this case is corporations as persons, person-hood. The distinction between individuals and corporations as it applies to spending on election campaigns is the issue here. Corporations and lobbyists now write the laws for congress and this decision places corporate shills directly into congressional and senatorial seats, a bad situation has gotten worse.
Corporations were recognized as persons for purposes of the 14th Amendment in an 1886 Supreme Court Case, Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad, 118 U.S. 394. The word "person" in the 14th Amendment has been misconstrued to include a corporate entity. Corporations are not people, they are artificial legal entities and their speech has been interpreted as money. Government corruption has just been institutionalized into our system.
We will no longer see "paid for by _____________ " at the bottom of our campaign ads. We will not even know who is influencing our politics.
The remedy is a constitutional amendment which will take years to pass if it even has half a chance. The temporary solution is passing a law that requires a majority of share holders to vote on campaign expenditures.
It would seem to me, that corporations have a double say in our election process, the individual vote as well as the double whammy of the corporate vote with it's millions and billions of dollars.
This decision, lifts constraints on Corporate and Union funding. We all know that America's unions are becoming a thing of the past, Do I have to tell you that America's unions now have an even shorter life span, they have been weakened and the corporate strangle hold will tighten with more vigor than ever before. People, if you do not support our unions, you loose the last collective bargaining chip that you have. You are being run over and trampled by Corporate America and you let it happen, you let the election issues of guns, gays and God divide this nation. These are not the issues of greatest importance. WAKE UP!
Greg Palast:
Candidate Barack Obama was one sharp speaker, but he would not have been heard, and certainly would not have won, without the astonishing outpouring of donations from two million Americans. It was an unprecedented uprising-by-PayPal, overwhelming the old fat-cat sources of funding.
Well, kiss that small-donor revolution goodbye. Under the Court's new rules, progressive list serves won't stand a chance against the resources of new "citizens" such as CNOOC, the China National Offshore Oil Corporation. Maybe UBS (United Bank of Switzerland), which faces U.S. criminal prosecution and a billion-dollar fine for fraud, might be tempted to invest in a few Senate seats. As would XYZ Corporation, whose owners remain hidden by "street names."
The greatest human achievement is the subordination of government to law, and YOU are going to hand the law of the people over to corporations, this is Fascism. We are a colonized nation again, by the Trans National Corporations, 1776 is here again! We carried out a successful revolution once, or should I phrase it as "once upon a time" for by all outward appearances we are a people stuck in fairy tale land, we inspired the French Revolution. It is time for America to lead again! Realize we have opened the door to money from foreign corporations, most Trans National Corporations are ex American corporations that have moved their base of operations and banking deposits off shore to avoid american taxes. ARE YOU READY TO EAT CAKE??

I think this shows us that the power in these once great United States actually lies in the hands of the Supreme Court. The court of last redress, we the people have to make it understood that we are the entity of last redress.

Yes, and what of this last redress?.....Now if you consider the reparation from previous legislation and the indemnity rate purported by several legitimization of these multiple corporations supported throughout unpropitious squander. Its little wonder we acrimoniously delve into reflationary spiral leading to future quadrennial candelabrum.
